This is the most fundamental necessity of faith. We must come to the understanding that in the beginning was God. All through the Bible, the spirit confirms this being an important frame of thought. The first commandment is “thou shalt not have any other God but me.” What God is saying is before Him there is and was no other. He’s not saying that we should not place another God before Him, as if we have the power to do so. He’s saying that we ourselves need to come to the understanding of His infinite position and creation. He was not created but creation came through Him.
We need to get to a place of understanding in which we realize that without Him nothing could ever be, and because of Him all have the capability of being. So if we have something to be thankful for, let it be, in the beginning, God.
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
